How we teach

One academic model, three levels, twelve connected schools

Every Fungaris programme follows the same structure: live modules taught by working professionals, a virtual campus for study between sessions and a final project. What changes between levels is depth and scope.

Twelve schools that talk to each other

Fungaris organises mycology into 12 schools offering 504 programmes between them. Each school covers a field, from cultivation and food to materials, ecology, biotechnology and emerging areas such as digital mycology. But fungi do not respect disciplinary borders, and neither do we.

Programmes in one school often draw on another: a materials programme needs cultivation know-how, a food programme touches fermentation and safety, a remediation programme relies on ecology. Where it makes sense, modules reference related schools so you can see where your next step could take you.

Three horizons of knowledge

Each topic is placed on a horizon so you know how mature the field and its evidence are.

EstablishedWell-understood practice with solid evidence and real-world use, such as proven cultivation techniques. The foundation of most programmes.
EmergingFields growing quickly with promising results and early applications, where practice is still being standardised.
FrontierExploratory areas such as fungal computing or new mycelium applications. We teach them as open questions, not settled facts.

How a module works

1Live sessionsYou meet your teacher and a small group in real time to learn, ask questions and discuss real cases.
2Virtual campusBetween sessions you work on the Moodle campus, where recordings, readings and exercises are waiting for you.
3Practice and exercisesEach module includes activities that turn concepts into hands-on understanding, adapted to what can be done at home or at work.
4Building towards the projectModules feed into your final project, so by the end you have a piece of work that reflects your own context and goals.
5Review and certificateYour final project is reviewed by teachers. On successful completion you receive a Fungaris certificate.

Progression paths

You can enter at any level. Many people start with a course to test an area or gain a concrete skill, then move to a diploma or master in the same school once they know it is the right direction. Others branch out: a grower may add a food or business programme, a designer may move from materials into cultivation.

  • Go deeper: from course to diploma to master within one school.
  • Go wider: combine programmes from different schools to build a cross-disciplinary profile.
  • Go to the frontier: once the foundations are in place, explore emerging and frontier topics.

Common questions

Do I need previous experience?

Courses are designed to be accessible; some diplomas and masters assume more background. Each programme page states what is expected.

Are sessions recorded?

Yes. Recordings are available on the virtual campus, but live attendance is where you get the most from small-group teaching.

Is the certificate an official degree?

Certificates are issued by Fungaris; accreditations are assessed according to the training completed and the local regulations of each country.
